How to choose solar

Match the output, panel and sensors.

1

Match wattage to the area

Small paths need less; driveways, yards and security need higher-wattage floods and street lights. Check the wattage and lumens.

2

Integrated vs separate panel

All-in-one units are quick to fit; a separate panel lets you put the light in shade and the panel in full sun for better charging.

3

Sensors & runtime

Motion sensors save battery and boost security; check the battery capacity and run-time for all-night lighting.

Solar — FAQs

How bright is each wattage?
Higher wattage and lumens mean brighter light. A small garden light might be a few watts; a security flood can be 30–100W+. Each product lists the figures.
Do solar lights work in winter or cloudy weather?
They still charge in daylight, just more slowly. Bigger panels and batteries cope better with overcast days.
Integrated vs separate panel — which is better?
Integrated is simplest; a separate panel is better where the light sits in shade, since you can mount the panel in full sun.
Which have motion sensors?
Many floods and wall lights do — filter by motion sensor for security-friendly options.
What IP rating do I need for full sun and rain?
IP65 or higher is best for exposed outdoor use in SA conditions.
