Best LED Strip Lights in South Africa (2026 Guide)

Updated July 2026. LED strip lights are the most flexible way to add cove lighting, under-cabinet task light, outdoor accents or full colour-changing effects to a home or business. As one of South Africa's largest strip light stockists — with over 150 strip and accessory lines in our Sandton, Johannesburg warehouse — we install-test what we sell. These are our picks for 2026, chosen from the brands we stock: Switch2LED (our own imported range), Synerji, Brightstar, Eurolux, K-Light and Spazio.

The picks in detail

Best all-rounder: Synerji 24V COB strip

COB strips pack their diodes so densely that you get one continuous, dot-free line of light — the modern look for coves, bulkheads and visible installs. The Synerji 24V COB delivers 1050 lumens per metre at 10W/m, is cut to the metre so you only buy what you need, and an IP65 version is available for bathrooms and covered patios. 20m project rolls are also stocked.

Best budget: Brightstar HVS001

At 6W/m with an IP65 rating, the Brightstar HVS001 is the workhorse we sell by the kilometre — literally: we hold tens of thousands of metres in stock. Ideal for ceiling coves and general accent lighting where you want reliable white light at the lowest cost per metre.

Best outdoor: Switch2LED 24V IP67

For exposed outdoor runs, the Switch2LED 24V 9W/m IP67 strip is fully sealed against dust and temporary submersion — suited to gardens, façades and wash-down areas. Switch2LED is our own imported brand, which is why we can sell it per metre and back it directly.

Best plug-and-play: Eurolux strip kits

If you want a no-fuss install, the Eurolux 5m kits come complete and IP65-rated, in warm white, cool white and RGB colour-changing versions from 0.5m up to 5m — the easiest entry point for bedrooms and TV backlighting.

Best premium colour: Spazio COB RGB+CTC

The Spazio 25W/m COB RGB+CTC tape combines full RGB colour with tunable white (warm-to-cool) in a dot-free COB format, with 840 LEDs per metre and a 5-year warranty — the architectural-grade choice, with matching controllers available.

Best without a driver: 220V mains strips

For very long single runs — shopfronts, roof lines, warehouses — a 220V strip like the Switch2LED 220V 9W/m plugs into mains without a separate driver and cuts every 10cm. 220V neon flex gives the same convenience with a soft, continuous neon glow for signage and outlines.

Best high-density 12V: K-Light 16W/m

Where you need serious output from a 12V system — counters, displays, vehicles — the K-Light 16W/m strip packs 240 LEDs per metre for bright, even light with minimal dotting.

How to choose: the 4 decisions

1. Voltage — 12V, 24V or 220V

12V suits short runs (cabinets, vehicles) — plan around a maximum of roughly 5m per power feed before voltage drop dims the far end. 24V is the all-rounder, typically running up to about 10m per feed. 220V mains strips handle very long single runs with no driver at all.

2. IP rating — where will it live?

IP20 for dry indoor use, IP65 for bathrooms, patios and rain exposure, IP67 for exposed or submersion-prone areas. Outdoors, keep the driver IP-rated or protected too.

3. Colour temperature

2700–3000K warm white for lounges and bedrooms, 4000K natural white for kitchens and task areas, 6000K cool white for garages, retail and commercial spaces. RGB or RGB+CTC if you want it all.

4. Driver sizing

Multiply wattage per metre by your run length, then add about 20% headroom. Example: 10W/m × 5m = 50W, so use a 75W or 100W 24V driver from our driver range. Send us your run length and we'll size it for you. Finish the job with aluminium channel for heat dissipation and a clean diffused line.

A note on load shedding

Low-voltage strips are among the most backup-friendly lighting you can install: a full 5m run of 10W/m strip draws only about 50W, so it runs comfortably off an inverter or battery backup system during load shedding.

Conclusion

The best LED strip light in South Africa in 2026 depends on the job: COB for visible dot-free lines, budget SMD for coves, IP67 for outdoors, kits for plug-and-play, 220V for long runs. Buy the strip, driver and channel together and the install takes care of itself — and if you're unsure, our team sizes drivers and cut lengths for free.
